Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What To Do When Your Stereo Record Player Plays One Channel: Turntable Fixes and Troubleshooting?

If you only hear the left or right channel of your records, it may be an issue of a loose connection or unbalanced cartridge.

In a record groove, the left and right channels are located on the left and right sides of the grooves. If the stylus isn't tracking correctly, it may miss one side entirely.

To correct this, follow below steps:
Try playing another device through your speakers such as a CD or smartphone to see if the issue follows the turntable or the speakers.
Try another record, if this only happen on certain records then clean the stylus and records using stylus and records brushes.
Dust and debris can cause the stylus to read only one side of the groove resulting in only hearing one channel audio.

NOTE: Records should be brushed before each use, even new records can have dirt and debris from the inner sleeve or manufacturing process.

check if the tonearm is balanced and is using the correct tracking force for the cartridge.

What can I do if my records are skipping?

There are several reasons that a record could skip. These steps will help find the cause for any skipping you might be experiencing.
Confirm the stylus cover is removed.
The turntable should be on a flat surface, an unlevel surface can cause the stylus to swing or track out of the grooves.
Check the stylus for dust or debris that can build up over time. A stylus brush should be used to clean the stylus regularly.
Check the records for dust or debris that may be causing the stylus to jump from the groove. An anti-static record cleaning brush should be used to clean the surface of your records.
Try different records, as it can be difficult to see scratches in records that could cause skipping. Even new records may have debris left from manufacturing in the grooves.
Confirm that the tonearm is not touching the tonearm lift bridge. This can cause skipping, especially at the lead groove of the record as the tonearm does not completely lower the stylus into the grooves.
If your turntable is still skipping after this, please reach out to our Customer Experience team directly. We would love the opportunity to get you back to enjoying your records again!
